In the first part we talked about Charley Spector’s background and joys Work on the Home Depot project and link building around it.

(0:34) Discover new keyword opportunities in the Google Search Console:

The Google Search Console is an amazing tool for B2B, said Charley. The Search Console gives you details on the keywords that you can compete on. You can see what Google is “nibbling” with your website in the performance report in Search Console, he said. And reinforce and test the content around those keyword phrases. You can then branch from there and create further content in these areas.

(1:34) Creating Column Pages for SEO:

All of this is produced through numerous pillar pages and blog posts. He said they want at least three blog posts per pillar page and the pillar pages are also linked. Of course, all content is unique and not edited. In the past they were called “Content Hubs”, today they are called “Pillar Pages”. With Google’s natural language processing, it’s even more important to properly incorporate these pillar pages into your navigation.

(5:02) Hub & Spokes in Search Engine Indices:

In short, a lot of this is similar to the old days when the old search engines created index maps via hubs, spokes, and so on. He said that you will usually see some success in a few weeks after implementing it. There’s an 80/20 rule, the 20% is super good and the 80% is okay.

You are seeing really big changes in the core Google updates, he said. He said that sometimes you will be hit hard by these core updates and then you can have a big recovery in the next update.
