Google Search Console logging error may cause knowledge loss from picture search

Google has confirmed an issue with Google Search Console performance reports for image search. The issue is a logging issue that can cause your click and impression data to be lower than normal in these reports. According to Google, the problem started on Monday January 24, 2022 and is still ongoing.

It’s unclear whether Google can backfill the data or not. It is also unclear when the topic will be revised.

We understand this is a reporting error only and is not specific to any ranking changes of your images in Google Images or web search.

Here’s what Google sent “Image search data is affected by a logging issue that may cause you to see a decrease in clicks and impressions for images on your site in the performance report. We are working to resolve this issue. This issue is a logging issue only. It does not reflect a decline in user behavior nor in Google search results.”
