Google is debating whether or not to launch extra particulars on core updates

In the current Search Off The Record podcast, John Mueller, Gary Illyes and Martin Splitt debate whether and what they should share in the Google core updates.

It seems like Gary Illyes wants Google to provide more details on each of the updates so that SEOs can act on them, but if not, stop announcing them all together. At least that’s how I understood what he was saying.

John Mueller said SEOs still want confirmation that what they are seeing, even if it’s obviously an update, is actually being confirmed by someone on Google.

The conversation on this topic starts about 11 minutes after the podcast starts:

John leads Gary with “So, Gary, do we announce core updates?” To which Gary replies, “We seem to be announcing score updates” Martin then asks Gary, “Are you satisfied with our approach?” In which Gary said, “I don’t know how to answer that without getting fired.” Obviously, Gary has some strong opinions on this matter, which he said right after, “so I have very strong feelings about core updates in general”.

He said that “our team in general knows what we’re doing when we’re doing core updates or what things are doing in core updates, more specifically.” Gary then explains that it’s mostly the advice that Google has been giving for years. Gary said, “For the vast majority of cases, things just focus on the guidelines we’ve published over the past 20 years”. . So basically, write good content, right, don’t buy links, whatever, I don’t know. Basically, every time we do one of these core updates, we’re saying … our advice too. “

But Gary added, “If you are affected by these updates or want to learn more about them.” But what Google says is the same, “Here is the Webmaster’s Guidelines to check out, or this post based on the Webmaster’s Guideline to look at.” “Then why are we releasing the core updates?” He said it was “obvious that there was an update”. When google can’t say more, Gary thinks he has nothing to say. But does Gary think Google should say more?

Gary said, “If we could give more guidance or more information about what’s in an update or how … for now we’re just saying,” Hello, there was a core update or an inbound core update in two hours. “And then four weeks later we say:” Yes, we are done with this core update. “

Obviously, Gary wants Google to be more transparent about the specific Google core updates and their activities.

In any case, the conversation is interesting to hear, it lasts about 11 minutes to 20 minutes.

Glenn Gabe understood this as I did:

This is great i hope it can happen 🙂 @method About general communication with core updates: He would like to provide * more information * on each core update, but it doesn’t sound like everyone is on board at Google (to give more insight into the changes with updates): https://t.co/QUONfuGnrV pic.twitter.com/kzeR8Cky4V
