Google presents web optimization ideas for taking an internet site offline to repair the Log4j vulnerability

I wrote about how before Google Ads is not affected by the Log4j vulnerability but many sites and servers are. So if you have a website that needs to be updated due to the Log4j security issue, then do you have to worry if you have to deactivate the website and the Googlebot cannot reach it?

If you disable your website and Google can’t crawl it, it could affect your ranking. Google has to deal with. spoken Website outages including using the 503 status code and possibly creating a static site – a lot of that advice from Google’s John Mueller would then work here.

Google’s John Mueller shared a twitter thread with new advice on how to deal with taking your website offline to fix Log4j security vulnerabilities.

(1) Create a static version of your website:

… ideally (strongly recommended) use the same URLs, then make very small changes for the search. Dynamic functionalities usually do not play a role in SEO (exception: some search pages). Same URLs = no redirects required = same content, bold type, headings, internal links, etc. (…

(2) Copy the site and also read the advice on pausing your online business:

… if you can’t do this for the entire website, then doing this for your primary pages is better than nothing (see Search Console & Analytics). We have more similar tips below https://t.co/uddzHNZwPB from a few years ago, I think. (…

(3) Host it on the same domain but if you can’t use 302s for temporary redirects:

… If you need to host the static content on a different hostname, 302 redirects are best, but they all “move” the content (for indexing) after a few days. If you can avoid redirects then it’s a lot better. (…

(4) Don’t worry, temporary outages will be fine in the long run:

… Even temporary technical problems are not a sign of an inferior website. Sometimes things break, it happens to us too (eeks, sorry), our systems will work to index and rank things as soon as your website is back online. Much luck!

What is Log4j? Apache Log4j is a Java-based logging utility originally written by Ceki Gülcü. It is part of the Apache Logging Services, a project of the Apache Software Foundation. Log4j is one of several Java logging frameworks. On December 9, 2021, the Alibaba Cloud Security Team published a zero-day vulnerability with the execution of arbitrary code in Log4j 2 and named it “Log4Shell”. It has been described by Tenable as “the greatest and most critical vulnerability of the last decade”.
