Google clues it can goal with many linked hyperlink schemes?

Google’s John Mueller posted a cryptic tweet this morning with a dark photo that had the date October 6, 2021 imprinted on an object. John’s tweet reads “A System of Interconnected Websites”. For me that means that since October 6th, Google declared linked sites dead as a link strategy – but John didn’t say much more.

Here is the post on Twitter:

He added after an answer that asked, “Wow. Backlinks are losing value?” John replied, “It was easier then.”

Things were simpler then.

I asked John for more details but I’m still waiting to hear:

Would you like to add more details before I take this out of context?

I mean, he’s gotten even more cryptic:

A lot is the night I dream of cheese.

Hey
Everything real should be a mess.

What do you think this tweet means?

I think the point is for Google to find a way to target link schemes that involve many interconnected types of websites. However, I would have thought that this would be solved in 2012 and not in 2021.

Forum discussion at Twitter.

Update: So John liked the tweet, can that be an indication that this hint is true? : P

Update 2: Google’s Edu Pereda also dropped some cryptic messages:

To love someone you have to be a stranger sometimes.

Update 3: More from John on this:

We’re all just looking for something real.

– πŸ§€ John πŸ§€ (@JohnMu) October 6, 2021

Not even close to baseline, sorry.

Update 4: This picture is from BLADE RUNNER 2049 (2017):

Update 5: Just a movie?

It’s from a movie.

However, the reactions make me curious as to whether we still have to do anything.
