67% of Google searches have duplicate prime tales and internet outcome URLs

Last week we broke the news that Google was doing something of some sort Deduplication of headlines and web results in some situations. John Shehata published some data from his product Newzdash showing that 67% of all Google searches have duplicate top stories for web result URLs and about 12% of top story URLs are duplicated in the web search results.

This is where Google deduplicates the top stories and web results, note that Google’s Danny Sullivan said this could change. Google removes duplicates of a URL from web results when a link appears as the first link in top stories and when the top stories box appears before web results. However, if it comes after that, Google won’t deduplicate the URL.

Here is the diagram of Newzdash:

John Shehata added, “The top stories in positions 6 and 7 are the most repeated in positions 4 and 5 in web search results. John added that the “numbers have remained very consistent over the past 30 days and he’s looked at 5.1 million URLs in 15 countries.
