Google says submitting to directories, submitting articles, and bookmarking are in opposition to its tips

Google’s John Mueller said on Twitter Directory submissions, article submissions, and bookmarking links in general violate Google’s Webmaster Guidelines. He said that they are generally considered artificial links by Google and so you should probably avoid a link building strategy that uses these.

The truth is, I don’t know of many SEOs who still use these strategies. They were link building strategies maybe 15 or more years ago, but I haven’t seen this strategy often after Penguin.

I know a lot of new SEOs are entering the field so just stay away from these types of links. Find out about the Link schemes documents from google if you need a refresher.
