Most SEOs say that 25% or much less of their time is dedicated to hyperlink constructing

Yesterday I published a survey that asked what percentage of your SEO time is spent building links. the Twitter Poll has a ton of responses, 1,875 votes, and it seems that the majority of SEOs spend less than 25% of their time focusing directly on link building tasks. I would guess that if you had asked this question 20 years ago, the result would be the opposite.

I asked the question because John Mueller from Google noticed this on twitter “in my experience most SEOs don’t build links.”

So I thought I’d ask the community and based on the answers, where I asked, “SEOs – what percentage of your SEO work is linked to link building?”

  • 9% said they spend 75% of their time on link building
  • 13% said that 50-75% of their time was focused on link building
  • 20% said that 25-50% of their time was focused on link building
  • 58% said that less than 25% of their time was devoted to link building
