Bulls on the Beach returns; Emerald Coast Beer Festival raises the bar

MONDAY

Bayou Hills Run

5:30 a.m., packet pickup; 7 a.m., race start; Monday, Sept. 5. Bayview Park, 2001 E. Lloyd St. The Bayou Hills Run is one of Pensacola’s oldest running events and this year the overall male and female winners for each age division will be recognized at a Pensacola City Council meeting following the race. Participants can choose to race in the 10K for $40 or the 5K for $30. Kids 12 and younger will have the chance to participate in the kid’s run for $25 after the primary race. Monday Night Blues

7 p.m. Monday, Sept. 5. Seville Quarter, 130 E. Government St. Seville Quarter and the Blues Society of Northwest Florida are bringing the “blues” back to the Seville Quarter Entertainment District. TUESDAY

Bands on the Beach

Up-and-coming blues and soul singer Jordan Chase, a native of Pensacola and New Orleans, will sing Tuesday at Bands on the Beach.

7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 6. Gulfside Pavilion at Casino Beach, Pensacola Beach. Pensacola Beach’s popular outdoor summer concert series with performers for every musical taste. Featuring a lineup of regional artists, Bands on the Beach delivers an eclectic musical experience throughout the entire summer. This week features Jordan Chase. WEDNESDAY

Jazz Pensacola’s Jazz Jam

6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 7. Odd Colony Brewing Co., 260 N. Palafox St. Join Jazz Pensacola as it presents its September Jazz Jam. Led by professional musicians, Jazz Jams are strictly for fun, opportunities to play jazz with other musicians. Drummers, please bring your own sticks/brushes. Matisyahu

Matisyahu will perform Wednesday at Vinyl Music Hall.

Palafox St. Matisyahu has formed a band that gives itself over to the music on par with his lyrical desire to connect to something beyond the self. The band features original Stubbs guitarist and longtime staple of the downtown New York improv scene Aaron Dugan, Jason Fraticelli on bass, Jason Lindner on keyboards and Matt Scarano on drums. THURSDAY

Bulls On The Beach

Riders try to stay on for the full eight seconds to move on to the next round of a previous Bulls on the Beach bull riding event at the Flora-Bama in Perdido Key.

5:30 p.m., doors; 7 p.m., music; 8 p.m., bull riding; Thursday through Saturday, Sept. 8 through 10. Flora-Bama Lounge & Package, 17401 Perdido Key Drive. Bring the family out for three nights of live rodeo action featuring professional bull riders from all around the country. Thursday will feature junior riders on miniature bulls, a coloring contest bike giveaway for both a lucky boy and girl, followed by professional bull riding to round out the night. Friday and Saturday night will feature the bull riders in the adult bull riding competition. $30 for ages 18 and older; $15 for ages 7 to 17; free for ages 6 and younger. ‘The U.S. and the Holocaust’

6 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 8. Jean & Paul Amos Performance Studio, 1000 College Blvd. ‘The U.S. and the Holocaust’ is a new three-part, six-hour documentary coming to PBS this fall. In advance of this television event, WSRE PBS will present a 40-minute preview screening of the film followed by a panel discussion led by Steve Nissim. The series, directed and produced by Ken Burns, Lynn Novick and Sarah Botstein of Florentine Films, explores America’s response to one of history’s greatest humanitarian crises. Free. Backpack Project USA Family Fishing Rodeo

6:30 p.m. Thursday through Saturday, Sept. 8 through 10. Grand Lagoon Yacht Club, 10653 Gulf Beach Highway. The ninth annual Backpack Project USA Family Fishing Rodeo features cash prizes, food, refreshments and a silent auction. The Backpack Project helps provide food to Escambia County public school students who are at risk for hunger. The fishing rodeo consists of an open and junior division. The open division is for anglers 13 and older, with an entry fee of $20. The junior division is for anglers 12 and younger, with no entry fee. More info: backpackprojectusa.com.

FRIDAY

Harvest Walk In Harmony & Sound Bath

4 p.m. Friday, Sept. 9. Pensacola Beach Park East. Christian Wagley of Healthy Gulf, a non-profit dedicated to the Gulf, will lead attendees on a Harvest Full Moon ecology walk in the sand dunes eco path.

This will be followed by a magical full moon Harvest Sound Bath on the Gulf side, right across the street, with Swan Michelle. This pure high vibrational lying down concert includes large crystal bowls, planetary gongs, an extensive collection of tuning forks, balinese metal drums, elemental chimes, along with the soothing serenade of sacred mantra. $40. 26th annual Emerald Coast Beer Festival

Seville Quarter hosts the 26th annual Emerald Coast Beer Festival on Friday.

5:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 9. Seville Quarter, 130 E. Government St. The Beer Festival is an opportunity to sample all styles of beer and determine your preferences. Beers from microbreweries, specialty bottled beers and homebrewed beers will be available for tasting. The event will also include food vendors, mead and live music. 32nd annual Juana Good Time Regatta

Juana's Pagodas and Sailors' Grill hosts the annual Juana Good Time Regatta this weekend.

6 p.m. Friday and 11 a.m. Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 9 through 11. Juana’s Pagodas, 1451 Navarre Beach Causeway. The regatta is designed for both experienced and novice racers, with the main emphasis being a “good time.” It is open to all sizes of multi-hull sailboats and includes parties, food and live music. Bands on the Blackwater Fall Concert Series

7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 9. Jernigan’s Landing, 5154 Willing St., Milton. Come by boat or bring a lawn chair and join friends and neighbors for the best live music on the Gulf Coast at the award winning, family-friendly Bands on the Blackwater concerts. 9/11 Memorial Milton Music Festival

7 a.m. Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 10 and 11. Southern Raceway, 9359 Nichols Lake Road, Milton. The 9/11 Milton Music Festival is two days of healing, music, worship and honoring of servicemen and women. Teen Focus Car Show

10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 10. Brownsville Community Center, 3200 W. De Soto St. Street Predatorz Fort Walton Beach and Women with Muscle are hosting the second annual Teen Focus Car Show. And as a special treat, The Great Saenger Pipe Organ will be played by the Pensacola Children’s Chorus’s executive director, Alex Gartner, beginning at 6 p.m. for each movie for a full hour. This week features Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.
