Horizon Forbidden West’s 1.05 Patch Fixes NPC’s Insomnia

Horizon Forbidden West launched last week and it’s inspired many to marvel at the visual upgrades Guerrilla has lavished on this sequel, and the game looks impressive on either PS4 or PS5. However, with big titles come the inevitable patches and updates in this day and age of console games, and Forbidden West is no exception.

In an update post, Guerrilla confirmed they’re investigating some issues that have been reported by players with “high priority”. These issues include graphical glitches such as shimmering, sharpening, and screen saturation when moving the camera. Other serious issues that players have reported are getting stuck on infinite loading screen when trying to load into melee pits, and a problem interacting with a machine carcass in a main quest, which means players cannot progress.

Guerrilla is in the course of investigating these problems. Meanwhile, it has released the first patch for the game: Patch 1.05, which fixes a number of issues and crashes, and makes some improvements. Main quests, side quests and errands, and world activities have seen fixes.

General fixes include image sharpening in HDR mode and settlements streaming in and out and there are “various performance improvements”. In World Activities, Guerrilla has made sure that a rogue Tallneck near The Sand of the Sentinels that would sometimes change the direction of its route has been “disciplined”, according to the developer.

However, the devs noticed something about its settlements that might have either disturbed players or just made them think the game’s realism could be improved. NPCs living in the settlements would stay up all night and not only be sleepless but would gather in large groups like some kind of night-loving cult. But Guerrilla says that these NPCs “that seemed to suffer from insomnia and would gather in large groups at night in settlements should act more naturally now”. Phew, now we can rest easier knowing those NPCs will be going to bed instead of suffering from their terrible insomnia.

No doubt Guerrilla will continue to patch the game up, especially as they’re looking to fix those ongoing issues. There is a Support Form should players want to inform of any issues and the full list of fixes and improvements can be read here. Meanwhile, here’s hoping that perhaps Guerrilla can work its magic and possibly give us a 40fps mode with all the 4K goodies on PS5…fingers crossed.
