Colt Sliva on Entities, Python for website positioning, and Recruiting Builders

In part One, we talked about how Colt Sliva became an SEO engineer and some topics related to search chart visualization. In the second part, we talked more about entities, Python for SEO, and recruiting developers. He quickly spawns Freebase, a large collaborative knowledge base made up of data primarily created by its community members that Google acquired. You can look at the URLs in the Google Knowledge Panels or Google Trends results to see where the entity data is coming from, explains Colt. We talked more about bikes, yippie.

Google’s API also gives you a relationship of trust as to whether the terms match your opinion. Maybe with it you can see how safe Google is with your content and what it really means. He said there are now some tools that take advantage of this and wish there were more, but some are really solid, he said.

We also talked a bit about why Python is so widely used in SEO. The purpose is to code things in a simple way to automate your SEO tasks. Sometimes tools can’t do what you want, so sometimes the best method is to code something yourself, using Python or another programming language. We talked a little bit about how to start learning Python. We also talked about some examples of its usage.

That brought us to the title change that Google made that it was measuring, and we both agreed that the SEO community had complained about this change.

Colt then gave us some tips on how to get developers involved in SEO. It’s not about getting in touch with them, it’s about showing them the benefits of what you want them to do on the SEO front. This is an important topic that we have talked about a couple of times in this vlog.
