Google introduces new algorithm replace

Google announced last night that it had started rolling out a new algorithm update to target search spam. The new update is called the November Spam Update and should take about a week to fully roll out.

Google continued Twitter “As part of our regular work to improve results, we’ve released a spam update for our systems. This November 2021 spam update should be fully rolled out within a week. We encourage websites to follow our search best practices.”

Google took this opportunity to link to the high level Google Webmaster Guidelines.

As part of our regular work to improve the results, we have released a spam update for our systems. This spam update from November 2021 should be fully rolled out within a week. We recommend websites to follow our search best practices: https://t.co/jK3ArQmTqT

We therefore don’t know if this update is targeting link spam, content spam, or other forms of search spam. Google only asks us to follow the general guidelines for webmasters.

We have reported on many many unconfirmed updates since that confirmed update, but the last confirmed update was that Link spam update which was rolled out between July 26, 2021 and August 24th – which was four weeks long when Google said it would take two weeks to roll out. Before that was the July 2021 core update, Spam update part 2, Spam update part 1, Page experience update, Predator update, Core update from June 2021 and Product rating update.

It looks like some of the tools have already been picked up on this rollout – maybe it was something else? Just not sure if there would be that much volatility from a spam update? In recent spam updates, we haven’t really seen much chatter or signals from the tools that there was an update. So it’s hard to say whether or not these tools picked up on here …

On the chatter page, I’ve seen around a few limited chats in the past 24 hours WebmasterWorld:

Today traffic in the US starts at -62% and is still falling … the UK seems to be slowing to zero and the rest of the world is average. Everything is now so heavily manipulated that there are no reliable traffic patterns. Traffic in the US today is awful, according to one [barely] hopeful day yesterday. when sensors go out [yet again] Please tell me this isn’t another terrible update. looks. for F’s sake … work so hard. Flat line on conversions for me after November 1st. I just have a large amount of spam emails / requests / bots. As usual, I’d say I lost 27% of my keywords due to recent updates. It’s quite a lot. I hope this is temporary.

So watch your rankings for the next week and if you see massive drops it could be related to this spam update.
