The Google Sitemap ping instrument continues to be working

John Mueller from Google was asked Twitter whether the sitemap ping tool is still working or not. John said that he “is not aware of any changes there and the URL appears to be responding to requests as usual”. Indeed it is official documentation still has this as an option.

The documentation says, “Use the ping tool. Send a GET request to this address in your browser or command line and include the full URL of the sitemap. Make sure the sitemap file is accessible.” . “

The format for pinging Google is https://www.google.com/ping?sitemap=FULL_URL_OF_SITEMAP

Of course, just because you’re pinging Google with new URLs doesn’t mean that Google will index all pages and show all pages in Google Search. John added on Twitter, “However, pinging the sitemap does not guarantee crawling.”

I am not aware of any changes there and the URL appears to be responding to requests as usual. However, a sitemap ping does not guarantee crawling.
