Interview with author and negotiation guru Gaetan Pellerin

Most people “suck” on negotiations – even if they think they won’t; says today’s podcast guest. Negotiating is all about dealing with emotions in the moment, and how you are used to dealing with your emotions is why you probably sucks about negotiating. You can be a skilled negotiator because you’ve done it many times, or a lucky negotiator who has often managed to emerge victorious. But none of these things will help you navigate the minefield of emotions – which means that when those emotions crop up in a negotiation, you are not prepared to deal with them.

Richard “Capt’n” Henderson and Shelby interview Gaëtan Pellerin (NavigatesGroup.com), who argues that negotiation is not about skills or knowledge, but rather the ability to perform under stress while experiencing emotions. Gaëtan Pellerin is the author of Mindful NEGOTIATING: Become more conscious in the moment, conquer your ego and get everyone what they really want.

The following topics are discussed in the podcast:

  • What made Gaëtan Pellerin decide to write a book about Mindful Negotiations?
  • Why negotiation is more about the ego
  • What are the four biggest negotiation myths?
  • What Are Four Simple Steps To Get More Business Bargaining?
  • When negotiating, how do you become more conscious in the moment and defeat your ego?
  • How does everyone get what they really want?
  • How can we achieve this always elusive goal of a win-win negotiation?
