Stargirl Promo Reveals the Return of a Lifeless DC Villain

A promo for the next episode of Stargirl shows Yolanda Montez, a.k.a. Wildcat, being haunted by a supervillain — one who died at her own hands.

The memory of a deceased foe haunts a member of the Justice Society of America in a promo for the next episode of Stargirl.

The episode, “Summer School: Chapter Seven,” sees Yolanda Montez/Wildcat (Yvette Monreal) still struggling with the shock and guilt of killing the supervillain Henry King Sr./Brainwave (Christopher James Baker) in the finale of Season 1. However, likely due to the demon Eclipso (Nick Tarabay), Yolanda finds both herself haunted by Brainwave‘s memory, who promises her that he’ll be “with her forever.” The episode promo says that the guilt of her actions will force Yolanda “to make a heartbreaking decision.”

The tone and content of the promo confirms showrunner Geoff Johns’ assertion that this season of Stargirl will take inspiration from teen horror movies. Johns said much of Season 2 comes from his love of movies like The Lost Boys and A Nightmare on Elm Street and likened Eclipso to Nightmare’s bogeyman Freddy Kruger and Pennywise the Dancing Clown from Stephen King’s It.

So far, Eclipso has more than lived up to those monstrous bonafides. Audiences saw him orchestrate the death of Dr. Mid-Nite’s young daughter in the season premier and his return is enough to unsettle The Shade (Jonathan Cake), enough that the shadowy villain offered an alliance with the new JSA to rid the world of the monster.

New episodes of Stargirl air Tuesday nights at 8 on The CW.
