Cache Creek Lavender Farms to carry 18th annual lavender pageant – Every day Democrat

The 18th annual Cache Creek Lavender Festival will be held Saturday and Sunday, June 11 and 12, at the Cache Creek Lavender Farm in Rumsey.

“This fun annual event celebrates the beginning of the lavender harvest when the fields are starting to bloom,” a farm press release stated. “Come out for a relaxing day in the country and join in the activities.”

The farm — located at 3430 Madrone St. in Rumsey — will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days and admission will be free. Live music, wine tasting, educational field tours, crafts, lavender ice cream, lavender lemonade and lavender cheese are just a few of what will be offered for attendees, according to the release.

“Stroll through the purple fields and pick your own lavender then relax in the shade and enjoy the music,” the release added. “Good food will be available for purchase and, of course, there will be Cache Creek Lavender products and lavender plants for sale.

Charles Opper, founder and owner of the farm, will provide field talks explaining lavender propagation, cultivation and use on both days. Saturday will feature John Foster, founder of B-Z Pollination, who will give a presentation on bees and Sunday will feature Jenny Papka, of Native Bird Connections, who will show and teach about her birds of prey, according to the release.

Live music will be performed by singer and guitarist Fred McCarty on Saturday — known for his Celtic, folk and blues music — and by the Deering Coretet — known for their electric mix of jazz, world and Celtic-flavored sound — on Sunday.
