Providing Healing, Promoting Hope Throughout Women’s History Month

Throughout the month of March, ActiveCampaign celebrated and acknowledged Women’s History Month in a variety of ways. This year’s theme was “Providing Healing, Promoting Hope” — which seemed very appropriate given the past two years. It’s an inspiring theme that doesn’t try and erase what has happened but is meant to help us grow and become stronger as individuals and as a community.

What made this theme even more meaningful were the women who volunteered to help coordinate the various events hosted this March for Women’s History Month. It was amazing to not only work with so many amazing women and allies but also to hear so many great ideas. Watching everything come together without the anxiety, overwhelming need to do everything myself, or fear of letting everyone down empowered me to give the month its proper celebration.

Equality for all

have girma was this month’s guest speaker through our ActivePerspectives program, which celebrates diverse perspectives and educates ActiveCampaign employees on topics related to our values. haben Girma is a human rights lawyer advancing disability justice. She is also the first deafblind person to graduate from Harvard Law School.

In our fireside chat, have shared her experiences navigating life and the struggles she faced. It was both enlightening and emotional that left a major impact on ActiveCampaign. haben brought awareness to not only the struggles those with disabilities endure but also how it doesn’t take much to create equitable spaces to ensure everyone is included.

sharing experiences

We also hosted two panel discussions: “Showcasing The Diversity of Experiences Among Women” and “Advocating for Yourself.” Our panelists shared their unique perspectives and experiences at ActiveCampaign, as well as in their lives and careers. These conversations are important to continue making progress so everyone not only has a seat at the table but they also have the same amount of food on their plate.

Trivia galore

Last year we hosted a very successful trivia event, so we sought to bring it back by hosting another Women’s History Month trivia event in collaboration with the ActivelyLatinX employee resource group (ERG). This year we hosted two “episodes” of Jeopardy, but modified the game format a little so we could team up. Not only did everyone have an enjoyable time, but we all learned something new. Plus, the top 3 teams from each group went home with prizes!

Hitting it out of the park

In addition to our panel discussions, fireside chat, and trivia night, we published several podcasts for ActiveCampaign employees where their female-identifying colleagues shared thoughts, stories, and words of wisdom around women empowerment. We also celebrated International Women’s Day with another year of baseball-style cards highlighting various women from around the world. This proved as a creative way to share great information, start conversations, and inspire people.

“Having such a strong support structure from my manager to my team and coworkers, through to the very top of ActiveCampaign removes some of the challenges and allows me to bring my true self to ActiveCampaign every day.”

Being a woman in tech has its challenges. Being a woman in a management position in tech even more so. I feel very fortunate to co-lead the women of AC ERG, as well as have my manager’s support — both in my current role and involvement with the ERG. He even makes a point to share events sponsored by the Women of AC ERG. Having such a strong support structure from my manager to my team and coworkers, through to the very top of ActiveCampaign removes some of the challenges and allows me to bring my true self to ActiveCampaign every day. I see the change many women and allies have fought so long to see and I am optimistic for the future!
