Pinterest Shares New Insights into Rising Journey Traits as Folks Look Past the Pandemic

With vaccine adoption gaining significant momentum in many regions, people now want to return to their normal pre-COVID-19 behavior, with travel high on the agenda for many.

Nothing beats months of lockdowns and restrictions to spark your spirit of adventure while at the same time many potential travelers have saved their money during the lockdown months to give them more leeway to get away with on their upcoming vacation plans.

This is definitely where people look, loud the latest data from Pinterest. Pinterest says thatTotal travel searches across the platform increased 19% in 2021 compared to pre-pandemic levels in 2019, while searches for specific travel destinations fell 14% over the same period.

As per Pinterest:

“Today’s travelers are increasingly driven by passions (like hiking, dining, or museums) or destinations (like escaping the city or chasing summer) rather than specific destinations. For example, searches for “dream vacation destinations” increased 482% year over year.

That, Pinterest says, gives travel marketers more opportunities to reach out to potential travelers with new deals and offers by enticing them with escape and adventure plans that cater to the broader desire to see the world all over again.

Domestic travel in particular has been popular, and Pinterest shared this map of the top destinations that Pinners have been focusing on over the past few months.

This could help guide your thinking about marketing your travel programs and packages, as well as the items and elements that people will need to bring with them on their new getaways.

And pinners are definitely an open market in this regard:

“72% of people who use Pinterest to plan trips have used the platform to set their travel destination. You can bring your brand into the mix by meeting people when and where they’re looking. “

It’s been two difficult years for travel and event marketers, but now the light at the end of the tunnel seems to be in sight as new statistics like this underscore the growing interest in getting away, leading to a much-needed tourism boom in the last few months of the year 2021.

Hopefully we are now on the right path for the people and regions that depend on it to grow again.
