Bizarre Google Search Updates, Facebook Outage, Google Hyperlink Program Penalties, Google Sustainability & Extra

This week I started the great Google Monthly Webmaster Report – it’s a great way to remind yourself of what’s changed. Google search maybe had this really weird Google search update this past weekend. And then on October 6th and 7th, we saw another Google ranking update. Facebook had a 6 hour outage and I discussed how Google search handled it. Google’s John Mueller dropped this cryptic tweet which may hint at a new set of penalties related to link schemes. The Google Search Console posted more detailed and actionable bugs for the Rich Search Results Status Report. Google has announced a number of new search functions related to sustainability. Google is testing a 5-local package and is also testing a new offer label in the local package. Google Chrome is testing side-by-side search and a feature called Journeys. AMP links no longer work in Google Search on iOS 15 for the time being. Google tests featured snippets in full. Google is testing query refinements in the autocomplete search suggestions. Google is testing a vertical site link design. The Google Ads Keyword Planner tool now has trending data. Google will exclude advertisers, publishers and YouTubers from its advertising network if they advertise information on opposing climate change. Google Search has officially ended support for Internet Explorer 11. Google said that Google is by far the number one search engine on Microsoft Bing.
