If altering web site themes does not damage your Google rankings

Last week we covered how Google’s John Mueller said that Change the website theme or WordPress theme, can affect your rankings. But when will changing your website theme not affect your rankings?

Google’s John Mueller actually looked at this question a few months ago Twitter. He said changing the colors on your website or moving HTML elements shouldn’t have any real impact on your Google search ranking. But if changing the website theme results in a change in the layout, what your internal linking looks like, and the overall website design – then it can affect your Google rankings.

John said, “If you change the color and move HTML elements I wouldn’t expect any problems. If it’s the topic (layout, linking, design, etc) then yes, you can see changes. Sometimes up, sometimes after below. Think what to expect from a topic and make sure it has SEO improvements! “
